08 Sep K-Drummers Celebrate Cultural Collaboration with a Bold Performance!
Back by popular demand, the K Drum Team of the Korea Center of Greenville, South Carolina will make their third appearance on the Family Stage at Arts in the Heart of Augusta. Their 2025 theme, “Korean Drum’s Heartbeat Across the Globe,” celebrates the deep traditions of Korean drumming while embracing new and unexpected collaborations. Rooted in centuries-old practices, Korean drums have long been central to both folk celebrations and royal court ceremonies. Ranging in size and sound, these instruments belong to the hyeokbu (혁부, 革部), the family of leather instruments, and include the powerful Korean barrel drum, whose thunderous voice has echoed through generations.
Beloved by festival audiences, the K Drum Team’s popularity continues to grow thanks to their ability to blend the timeless sounds of traditional Korean drumming with the pulse of contemporary music. By layering ancient rhythms over modern beats, they create an electrifying experience that bridges history and innovation.
As proud residents of Greenville, SC, the K Drum Team also values building connections beyond their own community. This year, they will collaborate with local Augusta musicians and dancers including the Aiken Sheriff’s Pipes and Drums, Eastwind Village Fighters, Saidi & Friends, Evadne Medina and her dancers, Jezibell Anat and Dana Zumstein with her young daughters, weaving together cultures, sounds, and styles in ways that will surprise and inspire. This blending of traditions is exactly what the Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival is all about; celebrating diversity, unity, and the joy of shared artistry. From the booming heartbeat of the barrel drum to the global rhythms of their collaborators, audiences can expect a high-energy performance that embodies the spirit of connection.
