Fiber Art Installations Back at Arts in the Heart

Fiber Art Installations Back at Arts in the Heart

Yarn isn’t just for scarves anymore, it’s become a bold medium for large-scale art. Known as yarn bombing or fiber installations, these colorful creations transform everyday spaces into playful, welcoming environments. This year at the festival, several local artists created under the theme of “enchanted forest” and include yarn snakes, mushrooms, flowers and more all delicately wrapped around trees along 9th Street North.

For the past three years, the Greater Augusta Arts Council has tapped into the talents of local fiber artists eager to volunteer their skills for the Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival. Together, they’ve stitched and crocheted vibrant installations for the Family Area, turning it into a whimsical world of color and texture that delights children of all ages.

This year’s yarn-wrapped trees stretch from the river toward Boll Weevil to welcome people in to the Family Area, with each one lovingly crafted by local artists and community groups:

  • Tree 1 & 2 – Tina Wanasek
  • Tree 3 – Paige Michael
  • Tree 4 – Community Group Tree (Lead: Paige Michael)
  • Tree 5 – Community Group Tree (Lead: Erica Pastecki)
  • Tree 6 & 7 – Girl Scouts and Family / Troop 20200
  • Tree 8 – Carolyn Rushbrook and Erica Pastecki

Community Group Tree artists as of September 16, 2025, include Kellie Laird, Maddie Cartwright (Monokromaddie), Tierra, Leo Gonzalez, Paige Michael, and Erica Pastecki.

Special thanks go out to all of our yarn artists, installation teams, those who donated yarn, and anyone we may have missed, this project wouldn’t be possible without them.

In Augusta, every loop and knot brings a little more joy, weaving art, community, and playfulness into the heart of the city.

View there work now, through the festival and after until Sunday, September 28th.
