14 Sep First Time Participants – Analog Studio of Augusta!
The Arts in the Heart of Augusta Festival and the Greater Augusta Arts Council is thrilled to welcome Analog Studio of Augusta to this year’s booth line up in the Emerging Local Artist Alley.
Supporting local artists means creating opportunities for them to share their work and connect with new audiences. It was at the Saturday Market that Heather Dunaway, the GAAC Gallery & Public Art Director, connected with ASA’s Jessica and Xan Yu, inviting them to submit to participate in the festival. Eventually, this lead to a conversation with Mark Albertin, who runs the studio.
Analog Studio of Augusta (ASA) is a local, film photography darkroom specializing in black and white photography.
At ASA, the goal has always been to create something by hand without the use of technology or a computer. Using your own hands like a sculptor with clay, except you shape light falling onto a photo-sensitive paper. You dodge and burn with the light coming from an enlarger and the end result is a one-of-a-kind original piece of art. There is no Photoshop here, no AI. Just real, creative ability, creating beauty, one frame at a time.
ASA brings something especially meaningful to the festival: the delicate art of analog photography. Its a hands-on process that is becoming increasingly rare in our digital world. By giving artists working in these mediums a place to be seen and celebrated, Arts in the Heart helps keep these unique art forms alive by introducing festivalgoers to the talented creatives working in analog photography right here in our community.
